The last of my miniseries of photos from Camber. Re-reading old books has been a great lockdown discovery this year. One of my favourites is the Richard Ford’s ‘Frank Bascombe’ trilogy charting the travails of one-time Sportswriter and eventual Realtor (Estate Agent to our English ears)) over three novels and a thirty year timespan. The final book in the sequence, ‘Lay of the Land’ sees him settled on the New Jersey shoreline in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I saw this shut-up cafe as I was leaving and it immediately brought to mind old Frank and his quest for contentment amongst a devastated community.
