In June 2022 I took on the inaugural Transalp 1200, a bike ride through northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The 1250km event started and finished in Verona and took in the South Tirol, the Sillian and Julian Alps along the way.

Most cities have convenience stores on the corner dealing in essentials supplies and overpriced booze but here in West London we are blessed with a selection of great Middle Eastern supermarkets with fresh produce, flatbreads and exotic savouries. Each visit reminds me of back-street bazaars of Marrakech and Muscat, a chance to travel without ever leaving home. This is Saffron in Ravenscourt Park, my current destination of choice.
