Maldonado
The radio this morning was highlighting the plight of UK nationals stranded abroad in the current crisis. A lady was on the phone from Puerto Maldonado, deep in the Peruvian jungle worried about her chances of getting out of the country before all repatriation flights are stopped. A very tricky situation for those involved and had me reflecting of my own trip there back in 2018.
Up it until very recently it was easy to jump on a plane and travel anywhere in the world, safe in the knowledge that global systems of communication, finance and food distribution would keep us fully insulated from any major hardship. I wonder how we will view such travel in future now we have had a glimpse of how quickly and easily these things can unravel.
