In June 2022 I took on the inaugural Transalp 1200, a bike ride through northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The 1250km event started and finished in Verona and took in the South Tirol, the Sillian and Julian Alps along the way.

‘Phew, what a scorcher’ claims a famous old newspaper headline and it’s certainly true today. It was mind-bendingly hot so I shut the studio early and headed home where the new temperature gauge on the patio informs me of an air temperature of 47 degC.
