In June 2022 I took on the inaugural Transalp 1200, a bike ride through northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The 1250km event started and finished in Verona and took in the South Tirol, the Sillian and Julian Alps along the way.

Friday night by the river in Banes Bridge, a pub is open but only for outdoor drinks mind you. Still, a little taste of life beforetimes. A stormy day gives way to some watery evening sunshine, the perfect light for an outdoor pint. ‘Big sky, Blue light’ sang Marin Stephenson many years ago,
