In June 2022 I took on the inaugural Transalp 1200, a bike ride through northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The 1250km event started and finished in Verona and took in the South Tirol, the Sillian and Julian Alps along the way.

All of life is here in Palermo. Just over a year since my last visit and a lot has changed in the world since then. The city seems quieter, especially on arriving in the furnace-like midday heat. By nightfall the place comes alive, especially in Vucceria, the old butchers market. This is the scene outside the African music centre.
