In June 2022 I took on the inaugural Transalp 1200, a bike ride through northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The 1250km event started and finished in Verona and took in the South Tirol, the Sillian and Julian Alps along the way.

Hinterland

It’s Sunday and cycling is still permitted as a solo activity but long training rides are off limits for now. London’s a big place and an hour of riding only just drags you away from the city’s gravitational pull and out into the hinterland. I shot this in Maple Cross, close by the M25 Orbital motorway - a family enjoying some time outdoors in countryside but some little details add a little melancholy to the composition.
