Everyday

In June 2022 I took on the inaugural Transalp 1200, a bike ride through northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The 1250km event started and finished in Verona and took in the South Tirol, the Sillian and Julian Alps along the way.

These days it’s common to see hand-painted signs celebrating the NHS, a very noble and valid undertaking, on driveways, walls and front room windows. I’ve always been a fan of this form of outsider art but I reserve a particular fondness for those promoting local concerns. Stripped of any reference point or context, they merely become amusing vectors of petty self-interests. I spotted this one from a bike ride a few weeks ago which I think is a classic of the genre. As Father Ted would say “Down with this sort of thing!”.
