In June 2022 I took on the inaugural Transalp 1200, a bike ride through northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The 1250km event started and finished in Verona and took in the South Tirol, the Sillian and Julian Alps along the way.

One of the joys of ski-ing in Italy, apart from wide-open, empty pistes is the variety of options for lunch. One of the best in the region is Chalet Etoile at the foot of Monte Cervino, or the Matterhorn as it’s better known. A spectacular location for an equally fine meal.
