In June 2022 I took on the inaugural Transalp 1200, a bike ride through northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The 1250km event started and finished in Verona and took in the South Tirol, the Sillian and Julian Alps along the way.

Back in 1995 I remember preparing a full page ad for the NME featuring an X-Ray of Johns Squire’s fractured collarbone. The ad was to to announce their cancellation of the headline slot at Glastonbury, to say sorry to their fans and to scotch rumours that they’d pulled out because of band tensions. Pulp ended up deputising and their career took off as a result, a sliding doors moment - the Roses split up a year later.

All of that is by way of introducing my own John Squire moment. The Eternal Recurrence.
